Emergency Radio Systems That Keep You Connected
Disaster-Ready Communications for Emergency Services Across Australia and the Pacific
When mobile towers drop out, power goes down, and your crew’s out in the field, you need systems that don’t flinch.
At Mobile Communications, we design and deploy fully integrated, blackout-proof comms for emergency services across Australia and the Pacific. From HF and VHF to RoIP, LTE, and satellite, we make it all work together in one seamless, resilient system.
When seconds count, we keep your agency connected across every band, every device, and every situation.

What Makes Us Different?
Built for the Realities of Emergency Response
Emergency services teams work across vehicles, towers, field posts, and HQs — often using mismatched comms systems. We fix that.
We combine HF, VHF, UHF, LTE, RoIP, and satellite into a seamless setup tailored to your environment, your people, and your risks.
What that looks like in action:
One interface. All bands. Zero downtime.
Whether you’re talking to a flood boat on HF, an aerial unit on VHF, or command via LTE, everything flows through a unified system powered by Nexion SmartPatch. No juggling devices. No dead ends.
Roaming vehicles become mobile command centres.
With Vehicle-as-a-Node (VaaN), your field units can operate as mini control hubs—boosting range and ensuring handhelds stay connected through onboard radio and LTE links.
A single rugged handset replaces multiple radios.
The NX64-H4 lets your crews switch between UHF, VHF, HF, satellite, and LTE from one device. That means less gear, less confusion, and less time spent training.
Radio and IP systems actually talk to each other.
RoIP bridges radio and LTE networks so you can coordinate SES, fire, police and council—even when they’re on completely different gear.
Resilience is built in, not bolted on.
When the towers go down and the power’s out, HF keeps transmitting. Our long-range systems don’t rely on repeater infrastructure, so your message gets through—even in the most isolated conditions.
Every system is ready for audit, training, and service.
From documentation and user guides to remote support and local servicing, our systems are built to meet government standards and survive field conditions.
Cyclone Alfred, 2025
“What happens when the towers go down—and you’re still online?”
In March 2025, Ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred hit southeast Queensland and northern NSW. It brought widespread flooding, destroyed power infrastructure, and knocked out large portions of the mobile network.
Agencies relying solely on cellular or fibre-based comms were cut off. But those with Mobile Communications-built systems stayed operational.
How?
Mobile Communications systems already deployed in the region—configured with Long Range Digital Radio (LRDR), RoIP, and SmartPatch-integrated vehicles—kept agencies connected when other comms collapsed.
What Made the Difference:
- HF (LRDR) provided long-range voice comms with zero infrastructure reliance
- Vehicle-as-a-Node units became mobile hubs when fixed assets failed
- RoIP and Nexion SmartPatch automatically bridged radio and LTE networks, maintaining interoperability between SES, fire, police, and council
- Unified interface reduced training load and user error in high-pressure conditions

“Alfred proved what we’ve been saying for years: it’s not about one radio. It’s about the system holding together when everything else doesn’t.”
Field Outcomes:
- 100% uptime on LRDR links during multi-day outages
- 35% faster coordination where Mobile Communications systems were in place
- Zero dropout in areas using SmartPatch-backed VaaN deployments
This is what resilience looks like. It’s not a patchwork of radios, but a system that adapts, survives, and keeps your teams talking when it matters most.
The Power of an Integrated System
It’s not one piece of gear that saves the day, it’s all of them working together.
No single radio band or device can cover every situation. That’s why we build layered, interoperable systems. HF for long-range backup. VHF and UHF for tactical field ops. LTE and RoIP for rich data and command-level coordination. Satellite for the worst-case fallback. It all connects through SmartPatch—so when disaster hits, your team doesn’t miss a beat.
LRDR (Long Range Digital Radio)
- Range: 3–30 MHz
- Repeater-free, long-distance voice + data
- Perfect for regional and remote areas
VHF (Very High Frequency)
- Range: 118–174 MHz
- Great in open terrain
- Cost-effective and portable
- Ideal for rural fire, agriculture, and vehicle-to-vehicle ops
UHF (Ultra High Frequency)
- Range: 400–520 MHz
- Better in built-up areas
- Compact mobile and handheld solutions
- Common in urban fire, warehouse, and council use
LTE + RoIP
- Delivers data, video, and tracking tools
- RoIP enables seamless comms across every band
Satellite Backup
- Provides ultimate failover when terrestrial systems collapse
- Available in all Mobile Communications system designs
Every setup includes redundancy planning, intuitive interfaces, and remote/local support.
Redundancy without the complexity
When we get the call, it’s usually one of these:
- Comms failed during a flood or fire
- Crews couldn’t talk across networks
- Budget’s about to reset and the system’s overdue
Sound familiar?
That’s where we come in. At Mobile Communications, we build comms systems that are as practical as they are powerful. Integrated, interoperable, and designed to fail over automatically, without needing your crew to think twice.
No toggling between handsets. No manual switching. Just rock-solid coverage that shifts from radio to LTE to satellite the moment it needs to, so your people can stay focused on the job, not the gear.
We design for the real world, where no single network is bulletproof, and downtime isn’t an option. And if you need SLAs for uptime guarantees, we’ll back it with transparent costs, credits, and shared accountability.
When the pressure’s on, your comms should just work. Ours do.
Metrics that matter
- 100% HF uptime during Cyclone Alfred
- 99.99% availability on SmartPatch-backed systems
- 40% reduction in field training time
These aren’t marketing claims, they’re field results.
